Curled Waterfall Braid

Curled Waterfall Braid
A waterfall braid with softly curled ends is elegant, but still low-maintenance.
The great thing about this braid is that it looks more intricate than it actually is.

Plaid

Plaid

I looooveee this skirt so much! I have so many of the midi skirts that zip and I have a hard to getting the to fit correctly because my body is not proportional. This one is perfect with the elastic - it stays where you put it for the most part - and also has the loops for a belt! :) (Not to mention it is $42!) If you love comfy basics like me, check out the J.Crew Tissue Turtlenecks - I have them in an array of colors because they are so comfortable & I always use them under sweaters & coats!

This was just a simple church look - of course my hair remained simple as well because the wind here has been crazy! Half of the photos we snapped my bun was blowing over & it did not look cute :/. PS. if you start to wondering what is all over my skirt.. it was dead grass. Fitz had just gotten a bath, then ran outside to play, then hopped in my lap sharing all of the dead grass with me! :)

Hope you all have a great week!

Night to Day with Nasty Gal

Night to Day with Nasty Gal
Today I am teaming up with Nasty Gal to show how I wore this jacket from day to night... or night to day (depending on the day!). If I could recommend ONE item to you - it would be this jacket. I am obsessed. John's been giving me a hard time about how often I wear it, but he also made a comment about how much he likes it. It goes with sooooo much! And is WARM w/o having sleeves! (PS. Its been below freezing here!) There's something about being kind of tall and having long arms/broad shoulders that makes me not like sleeves. A lot of coats are hard for me because if it fits nicely, it is sometimes snug through the shoulders making it hard to drive in. Anyway, the first look is what I wore to church yesterday. The second look was a 'day' look for me, granted I didn't wear this anywhere specific just yet. I am going somewhere a little warmer later this week so I was trying to plan outfits for that trip & had to share.

ALSO, if you are shopping for hats - Nasty Gal has some of the cutest ones! I've actually been doing a lot of shopping at Nasty Gal the past few months because the quality is so nice and the prices are super affordable for the quality.

How to Do Cat Eye Makeup

How to Do Cat Eye Makeup
For a more toned-down, but equally elegant cat eye makeup, start with the brush on the lashes at the inner corner of the eye. You should use small strokes at first and worry about thickening the line later. Stop at the end of your lashes then start the tail at the opposite ends and unite the two lines at the outer corner of your eye.

Follow the natural lash line and keep it relatively thin for a day look. Apply a dark eyeshadow on the top of your line and work towards the brow bone. Finish off the look by gently smudging the eyeliner and eye shadow. It's best to keep it simple and use just one shade of eyeshadow if you want an easy to wear day look.

Don't overdo the mascara for cat eyes and keep lips with a matte finish in nude, pale pink or peach tones if you want to keep attention focused on your eyes. Use an eyeshadow primer or an oil-free foundation if you choose to keep a thinner line.
The evening cat eye makeup look allows for more dramatic styles, but the essentials are the same. You can try using two or even three shades of eyeshadow, but blend them correctly to get the best look. Mascara on both the upper and lower eyelashes enhances this style of makeup.

If you're not getting the result you want by thickening the eyeliner flick, you can opt for a different technique for the perfect cat eye makeup. After drawing the thin line over your upper eyelashes, draw straight out following the angle of your lower lash line, stop at the most extreme point towards and your temple and bring back the eyeliner towards your lower eyelid. You can fill out the triangle at the end, once you've got the shape that works best for your eyes.

The most famous celebrity cat eye makeup wearers like Taylor Swift opt for the daytime version of the look without the smoky eye part, while Angelina Jolie has blended the styles perfectly for a more dramatic and glamorous appearance.

10 Tricks to Wear Bold Lipstick

10 Tricks to Wear Bold Lipstick
When you’re experimenting with bolder shades of lipstick for the first few times, don’t go for the high pigmented colors right away. A better way to get used to bold lipstick is to start with sheer coverage and slowly build up more color with a gloss.

If you’re ready for a more dramatic look, find out how to wear bold lipstick, from selecting the right shade to making sure that it stays put throughout the day without the need for constant reapplying.
1. Find the Right Shade for Your Skin Tone

Making the perfect choice for your skin tone is the most important step. For fair or very light skin, pinks are excellent, while a bright orange lip might be less suited to your complexion. For light skin, you can experiment with many shades, just like with dark skin, so don’t be afraid to experiment with bold pinks and reds. Tan skin or medium skin works best with orange shades, but pinks should be avoided.
2. Bold for Thin Lips

If you have thin or asymmetrical lips, the right answer to the question of how to wear bold lipstick is... with a lot of care. The darker you go, the thinner your lips will look. A matte finish will also have the same effect. So to make bold shades for you, choose lighter colors and always finish with a gloss.
3. Coordinate Your Colors

When you choose a bold lip color, it becomes very important to make sure that you’re coordinating it with the colors of your clothes and accessories. You should also try a couple of shades before deciding which one works best with your look. Start out with testing your bold lipstick colors, one on the top lip and one on the bottom to figure out which works best with your look.
4. Prep Your Lips Carefully

Going for a bold color means your lips will be the focal point of your look, so they have to look perfect. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips properly before applying any high pigment color. When you’re wondering how to wear bold lipstick, start with a good base, and pick the right finish for the season. Go for glossy in the winter and for a more matte look for summer.

5. Don’t Skip the Lip Liner

Bold shades have a lot of pigment, and that means any change in their look will definitely register. If you don’t want to check your lips every hour, it’s important to start with a liner. Choose a liner shade that matches your lips, not the color you’ve chosen. You can also use a little concealer around the edges of your lips for good definition.
6. Go with a Lip Stain

The right way to wear bold lipstick for a long lasting effect is to start with a lip stain in a matching shade. After you apply it all over your lips, set with translucent powder before adding lipstick. You can also create a more dramatic effect by choosing a lipstick one shade lighter or darker than the stain to complete a look with extra depth.
7. Skip the Lip Brush

While a lip brush can help you increase your precision for the application, going for a high pigment finish is easier without it. For a bold shade that gives you a dramatic effect, you should apply color directly with a pencil or from the lipstick tube.

8. Set with Blotting Papers

Blotting papers are usually a good idea, but they’re a must when you’re going to wear bold lipstick. Using the blotting sheets draws out emollients from the color, leaving behind the pigment that stays put. Try them for a longer lasting effect even if you already use powder between two layers of colors.

9. Don’t Ignore the Maintenance

When you’re wearing a bold lip, you’ll definitely need to more touch ups than for a sheer color. You should also have some concealer in your purse in order to correct any smudges. The easiest way to do that is to have a lip brush that’s already been dipped in a little concealer ready to use.
10. Keep Your Makeup Balanced

Wondering how to wear bold lipstick without going too far? Keep your eyes minimal, and pay attention to your foundation and concealer. Getting your complexion even is very important, and if you’re worried that the rest of your makeup is too minimal, focus on your eyelashes. Curl them for a more sophisticated look with a bold lip.

Simple Gold Eye Makeup

Simple Gold Eye Makeup
Gold is a great shade especially for Indian skin tones as it works great on the warm skin tones Indians have. Plus gold can be used for much about any look and occasion and you will never look out of the place. It is a very versatile shade with an innumerable numbers of looks that can be created with this particular shade.  Most of all this shade looks awesome with any skin tone, warm and cool. So you have no need to worry about whether it is meant for you or not!
    primer and concealer
    a light gold eye shadow
a bright dark golden eye shadow or a orange golden eye shadow
a dark brown shade for the crease
    eye liner
    mascara
    eyelash curler/ fake lashes
    a highlighter shade
Step 1:
Conceal the under eye area for dark circles and to provide an even look for the eye makeup

Step 2:

Prime the eyes with a good primer. Priming the eyelids help to keep the shadow on for many hours and also helps to prevent creasing. Those who have oily eyelids should definitely try a primer as it will surely help in keeping the eyelids free from oils for a much longer time. For this look I’m not using any primer.
Step 3:
Apply the light gold shade as a wash all over the lids from the inner corners to the outer corner. Do not extend outwards. Also keep in mind not to extend the eye shadow above the crease. Blend the eye shadow well and even out any patches for an even look. Use a blending brush to blend in all the eye shadows.

Step 4:
Now take the bright gold shade (loose pigment like mac golden lemon) and apply it on the outer 2/3rd of the lid. Do not extend it. .keep the amount of shadow used reasonable as we do not want a dramatic look. Take your blending brush and blend the shadow well with the wash shade we had applied earlier. This bright shade will catch the light and also it will make the eyes pop.

Step 5:
Now with an angled eye shadow brush take a dark brown/ bronze shade and apply it on the outer corner of the eyes and make a sharp edge. Also take the shade again and apply it in the crease. Blend it from inwards to outwards.

Step 6:

Blend the crease shade well with the gold shade and smoothen all harsh lines. Take a bit of the bronze/brown shade on a pencil brush and line the lower lash line from the outer 2/3rd

Step 7:

Now take a light highlighting shade on to a fluffy brush. Tap off excess shadow. Then apply it below the brow bone to highlight the eyes. Also take a little bit on a pencil brush or a q-tip and apply gently near the inner corner of the eyes and tear duct. This will give an instant pop to the eyes.

Step 8:
We have a lot of glittery makeup so we need to keep the rest simple. Apply a very thin line of eyeliner and apply a thin line of kajal . It’s preferred if you use brown eyeliner and smudge it as it will look better. Also use the same brown eye pencil to line the lower lash line.

Step 9:

Apply some fake lashes or apply some generous amounts of mascara and you are done. Curl your lashes if needed.
