Digging Deep

Digging Deep
I have to admit that this shopping freeze has been a lot more fun than I anticipated (words I never thought I'd hear myself say).  I have a new-found sense of clarity & feel as if I'm looking at my wardrobe with a fresh pair of eyes.  At the beginning of the month, I decided to issue myself a style challenge - once a week, I have to put together an outfit comprised of pieces that I've owned for a year or more (excluding accessories).  It has forced me think about pairings differently and it's really helped me cycle through ALL of my closet, not just my recent purchases.  I've shared below how old each item is that I'm wearing here & I've also included links to past outfit posts featuring these pieces to help give some remixing ideas.

P I N K

P I N K
I don’t know if it’s because of my new style resolution or because all the wedding planning going on, but I may be falling for pink. I never in a million years thought this day would happen, but I kinda like it. When I say pink, I mean a blush, pale pink, or anything soft… I love the way it pairs with white, gold, or grey. It’s just so pretty! While pink is feminine and girly, I think there’s a way to incorporate it into fashion and design in a more subtle way. To me, I see it as a nice balancing color (especially for my more masculine style) and sometimes as a neutral.

I know my first pink purchase will be weird, but this year is all about venturing out and trying new styles… and colors. Anyone else falling for the pale pinks?

Black + Camel + Stripes

Black + Camel + Stripes
I wore this outfit plus a coat a couple weeks ago to the Warriors game. As you can tell from Instagram, I’ve been on a black and camel kick as of late. The color combo is just so classic and chic no matter how you put it together. Every single one of these pieces have been on high rotation, but these AG ankle jeans are one of my best buys from 2014. I feel like they’re a hidden gem. On every retailers website, it’s really hard to see they’re distressed. So, if you’re browsing and not paying attention you’ll definitely pass them up (I know I did). The jeans are incredibly comfortable, a true black color, and a great length if you’re petite. And the best thing, they’re reasonably priced. I know a lot of black distressed denim are priced anywhere from $180-$250. If you’re looking for a pair of nice distressed black jeans, I’d definitely recommend trying these!

Sanuk Sweatshirt Shoes

Sanuk Sweatshirt Shoes
Aren't hoodies just the best? The first thing that drew me to these comfy Sanuk shoes from Flip Flop Shops in SLC is that the striped pattern is meant to mimic a sweatshirt. So of course, I doubled up on denim, threw on my favorite hoodie and called it a day. Now, which way to the beach bonfire please? :P

Thanks for reading.

Pier Love

Spent part of my birthday in Malibu with some of my best friends enjoying a delicious brunch at Malibu Farm- you have to try this place when you visit Malibu! We ordered a bunch of different breakfast plates so we can all share, and boy, were we in for a treat! Everything was deliciously fresh!

Dressed cozy because I know how chilly it can get in Malibu so this oversized knit sweater came in handy. Let’s talk about these cargo skinnies for a minute…

They’re one of my absolute favorite pieces in my closet because they’re so easy and versatile plus they bring back so many memories. These cargos are one of the first pieces I wore for one of my first blog posts years ago- I’ve had them for so long!! Love love love them!

I’m a little sick right now, so I’m off to work… I have some exciting news to share soon especially for my LA peeps! Stay tuned! x
